Guest conductor
Mika Eichenholz started his musical career as a clarinetist. Following his conducting studies in Helsinki, he had his debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989 and placed first at the Swedish conductors' competition. Since 1990, he has had a close cooperation with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with the Bolshoi Theater, the Marinsky Theater and the Folkoperan in Stockholm. In 2004, he was named musical director of Lund University. His extraordinary career has already taken him to perform in Europe, South America and South Africa. He performs as a guest conductor on a regular basis, both in Sweden and other European countries. He is also frequently invited to perform with symphony orchestras in South America and in South Africa. He has also recorded several CDs, including one with Barbara Hendricks and Maria João Pires (EMI). His recording of the works of Johann Strauss the Younger were enthusiastically received by music experts around the world, especially the Vienna Johann Strauss Society. Mika Eichenholz has also made a name for himself as a conductor of Swedish orchestra music of the 19th century.
Previous engagements for operas and ballets include works by George Bizet, W.A. Mozart, Astor Piazzolla, Giacomo Puccini, Gioacchino Rossini, Camille Saint-Saëns, Richard Strauss, Guiseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Dmitri Shostakovich/Benjamin Fleischmann and Engelbert Huperdinck.
